The man with the master key to the entertainment world, DJ L is the next great entertainer. His love for music has brought a new twist to the turntable. Born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland with parents who are natives of India, DJ L, borne Lohrasp Kansara, migrated to the U.S. on an international basketball scholarship to one of New York’s most prestigious high schools. “While attending SUNY Purchase College in Upstate New York, I became the main DJ for the majority of my school’s parties both on and off the campus”, says DJ L–who now runs his own business Open Lock Entertainment. After graduating college with a 4.0 G.P.A in Economics, DJ L devoted his time to music fulltime. In 2005, DJ L embarked upon an extremely successful promotional tour for his mixtapes. Fans and distributors in Greece and Japan rolled out the red carpet for his in-store appearances. He works hard to consistently distribute an average of 60-70 mixtapes annually for the past five years. “Obtaining new music first is very important in this industry. It is big to get someone’s song prior to an artist(s) album release,” says DJ L. Some artists who have hosted his mixtapes are Jim Jones, Wyclef, Swizz Beats, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo to name a few. His mixtapes guarantees the consumers the entertainment they want. Unlike other DJs, L identifies consistency and exclusivity as the key to success in this game. DJ L has received recognition in 2004 when he was crowned Justo Mixtape Rookie of the Year during his first year as a Mixtape DJ. In March 2005, DJ L and his mixtape partner New York’s Power 105.1, DJ Suss One were nominated as “Best Mixtape Duo” for the Justo Mixtape Awards. In 2006, he was nominated for Reggae mixtapes. His mixtapes are distributed all over the world. His mixtapes have been featured on MTV’s Mixtape Mondays and BET’s Rap City. He was also recognized as one of Violator Management’s All Star DJs. DJ L has also been featured in several magazines such as VIBE, XXL, The Source, Complex, Don Diva, BLOW, Street MOS, Rap Fanatic, Yellow Rat Bastard, and Tableist. In 2005, DJ L appeared on MTV’s Direct Effect where he was interviewed by rapper Lil’ Wayne. 2007 has proven to be DJ L’s most successful year yet; he continues to travel throughout the country and has gained residency at the hottest venues in New York City–as well as, being booked internationally. He DJ’s about 4 to 5 nights a week. DJ L is also currently dj’ing for BET’s no.1 TV show 106 & Park and is featured almost every day. However, DJ L is also an artist in his own way. He recently put out his first song called “Take It To The Top” which featured Junior Reid, Sheek Louch, Cassidy, his artist Harlem’s Cash, and Joel Ortiz. But for those who may not be aware, he is also a professional model under big company-Ikon Models- and he also is in M07 Clothing’s new add (he is the face of the company). On top of everything, DJ L plans to take over Hollywood as an actor. While he has recently filmed a short film, he is currently enrolled in a very prestigious acting school, Black Nexxus, here in New York City, where he trains with the world’s no. 1 acting coach- the legendary Susan Batson. This young DJ will be a driving force in the entertainment world for quite some time, so definitely pay close attention to what great things are to come. DJ L states: “The past does not exist anymore…the future does not belong to me…today is a gift…it is why we call today the present.”
